It’s hard to believe that the Christmas season is just around the corner. We also know that for people who have lost loved ones or people without healthy families with whom to gather, the Christmas season can be one of the loneliest times of the year. This is why many churches have begun hosting a Blue Christmas service. The liturgy takes many forms, but the goal is the same—to create a sacred space for folks who often feel sad or out of sorts in the usual Christmas festivities. Blue Christmas services are often held on the shortest day of the year as a reminder that from here on out, things get lighter on account of Jesus’ birth.
If your congregation is hosting a Blue Christmas service this year, please fill out the form below so that we can publicize your service. Your synod’s Diversity and Justice Taskforce would like to publish a complete list of all Blue Christmas services in the synod by November 15, 2022.
